The 11th annual Carrick Water Music Festival is just around the corner, commencing July 15th, bringing 5 days of musical and artistic discovery to Carrick-on-Shannon. An exciting and innovative line up is planned with something to please all artistic tastes.

One of the highlights of this year’s programme is the Festival’s Gala Event, taking place on Saturday 18th July at Landmark Central in The Landmark Hotel. The theme of the evening is Feasting With Figaro & Friends, a Musical Supper event presented by the esteemed Drawing Room Opera Company, who have performed for audiences including Bill & Hillary Clinton and the Australian and Canadian Prime Ministers. This promises to be an entertaining evening supper with extracts from much loved operas including The Marriage of Figaro, Cosi Fan Tutti, La Traviata and more.

An intimate concert is planned for Wednesday 15th July in The Dock Arts Centre with up-and-coming Irish indie-folk quartet The Young Folk, who are quickly becoming ones to watch on the Irish and European music scene. They acknowledge their folky influences in their music while asserting their own youthful personae with a self-composed alt-folk-pop live set that can include mandolin, banjo, trombone, melodica, xylophone and harmonica and more.

On Thursday 16th, there will be a lunchtime Classical Harp Recital in St. Georges Church with Russian Concert Harpist Ramona Sakalauskaite and Cameroonian singer/songwriter Mabel Chah. Ramona Sakalauskaite, has toured and played solo harp throughout Russia, Europe and Japan. Mabel Chah is a singer song writer from the North West of Cameroon, performing in French, Italian and Spanish. Both musicians now live and work in the Sligo area and were invited to perform for the Royal Party in Drumcliffe during their recent visit to Sligo. Ramona and Mabel will perform an eclectic programme of pieces by composers including O’Carolan, Handel’s Water Music Suite, Tchaikovsky and more.

More musical guests include Italy’s Luca Ciarla’s Fiddler in the Loop recital (an orchestra of just one!); Jazz cruises on Moon River with The Original Guinness Jazz Band and The Tolka Hot Club and a Rising Stars Recital with up-and-coming local musicians including Gavin Sweeney (Baritone), Bláithín Norah Farrell & Fiachra Evris Farrell (Piano) and the Leitrim Light Orchestra.

In between, experience Fine Art Exhibitions, Literary Events, Children’s Art Workshops and a FREE musical trail throughout the town.
